5 Tips To Nail Your Online PA School Interview
With life moving online now, it is crucial to solidify your online interview skills. Of course the basics of all interviewing is still essential but moving online is a total curveball! Read along to grow confident with the online aspect of interviewing.
Step 1: Find a quiet, clean space.
Usually when you interview, you’re going into their space. But with online interviews, it is like you are inviting the entire interview committee into your living space. With that said, you have to make sure your space is properly set up. Making sure it is quiet is important so you can hear what they are asking, they can hear your responses, and you are not distracted.
This will help the interview flow and feel natural. Equally important, you want your space to be clean and not distracting for the interview committee. You can clear off a wall and push a table up against it. This doesn’t have to be a permanent space, but a quick fix can go a long way!
Step 2: Test your lighting and computer position.
First impressions are still a thing with online interviewing. You want to make sure your space is well lit. This sounds like such a silly thing but you don’t want your first impression to look like you are a vampire hiding out in a dark space. You want to look warm and welcoming. Additionally, stack some books or a box beneath your computer so your computer is eye level.
This helps give the impression of actually being face to face with the interview committee, rather than being at an awkward angle that would never actually be seen in real life.
Step 3: Practice online video conferencing.
Have a friend, family member, or professional service like MYPABOX mock interview practice running through questions with you. You may be incredible with reading body language and noting social cues in person, but it is all different online when you can only see someone from the shoulders up. But with some practice, you can learn a lot about what a person is thinking through the lens of the computer! Practice, practice, practice. Come interview day, you will feel like you have done this 100 times and it will take away some of the stress.
Step 4: Record your mock interview and review it.
This is CRUCIAL! Watching and hearing yourself may feel cringey but this is where your growth is! Listen to where you stumble and look to see if you look awkward or restless during the interview. You want to exude confidence and show the interview committee that you are the right choice. The MYPABOX mock interview offers the recording of your practice session. Definitely capitalize on this, watch your interview and then try again!
Step 5: Wear pants.
Come on people, this is self explanatory!
